We talk about knowing the game situation prior to the pitch being thrown. Check out this video clip from 2014 of Hannah Kiyohara making a diving play against Ohio State University with the go ahead runner on third, and without hesitating and makes the play at home.

SB Preps: Hannah, there was a runner on second and third when the ball was hit up the middle at you. What were you thinking when you received the ball?
Hannah: There were less than 2 outs with the potential winning run on third so I was just focusing on stopping the ball and making a play.
SB Preps: Could you hear your teammates calling for you to throw home?
Hannah: I don’t remember any of my teammates, but I know the runner didn’t go on contact, she hesitated, so that’s how I knew that I might have a chance to throw her out.
SB Preps: You’re telling me you couldn’t hear Katie Keller at second base?
Hannah: Haha, surprisingly not, LOL.
SB Preps: Do you think if she broke on contact you would have thrown her out?
Hannah: Not a chance. (Lesson learned base runners)
SB Preps: Where does this rank in your top plays in college?
Hannah: Top two probably. Given the situation and the winning run on base this might be my best.
SB Preps: Thanks Hannah 🙂
